Why the name Invictus Designs? The name comes from a poem that has a deep meaning to me personally. To me it means having control over ones own fate and destiny. Read the poem Invictus. Art and design has been my love since before I can remember. Watching my older brother draw and create his own unique characters deeply influenced me. Like any little brother trying to be like his big brother, I began drawing. Over the years, I honed my skills and it soon became my passion. I believe it was around my sophomore year of high school, when I began playing around with Photoshop 5, that I first learned how to enhance my drawings and ideas through graphic art software. I am a graduate of Ball State University in the spring 2006 class, with a BFA in graphic design. Starting my own design company is something that I have wanted to do for quite sometime. With finally completing school, I finally had the time, knowledge and resources to do so. I’ve always enjoyed doing free lance work. While in school, I designed flyers for a host of different campus organizations, advertisements for our school newspaper, and was in charge of campaign ads for two student government slates. I was even commissioned to design the Ball State University annual activity book during my senior year. There are many things that have influenced me along my journey to becoming a graphic artist. Everything from Saturday morning cartoons, comic books, Hip-Hop culture, the Harlem Renaissance, African art, and architecture. I try to use remnants of all these different elements within my work. I do not want to limit myself to one style. My goal is for everything I create to have its own feel and personality.
I feel what separates me from other graphic artists, is my ability to step away from the computer and use other mediums within my works. My favorite thing to do is go back to my roots with pencil and paper, and draw. Then I incorporate the wonders of modern |
